Folio

Private net-worth ledger

T&C

Last updated 10 September 2026.

This is Folio’s terms and conditions: how you use the service, how we handle personal information, and how Pro cancellations and refunds work. Contact: hello@myfirstmillion.app.

Terms

The service

These terms cover Folio, a private net-worth ledger at myfirstmillion.app, operated by the Folio operator in Australia. By creating an account or using Folio you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Folio is a personal tracking tool only. It is not a bank, broker, adviser, or accountant, and it is not financial, tax, credit, legal, or investment advice. Nothing in Folio — totals, charts, budgets, savings goals, or live prices — is a recommendation to buy, sell, hold, or do anything with money.

Figures you see come from numbers you enter (and, for Pro stock tracking, from third-party prices that can be late, wrong, or missing). You alone are responsible for every money, tax, credit, or other decision you make, whether or not you used Folio.

Accounts

You can sign in with email and a password, or with Google. You must be at least 16. Keep your login details safe. Email-and-password accounts can reset the password from Sign in. Google sign-in is reset through Google, not Folio. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us at hello@myfirstmillion.app if you think someone else is using it.

Enter accurate information you are allowed to store. Folio does not connect to your bank. There is no automatic feed from Plaid, Method, or similar services.

Free and Pro

The core ledger is free forever: manual accounts, assets, debts, net worth, history, and JSON export. The limited demo stays on this device and is not a saved account.

Folio Pro is an optional monthly subscription at $9.99/month (A$9.99), billed through Stripe. Pro currently adds Budget, live stock portfolio tracking, and Savings goals. A yearly plan is not offered at the moment.

Pro renews automatically each month until you cancel. Taxes, if any, are handled in Stripe Checkout. See Refunds for cancellations and refunds.

Acceptable use

Do not use Folio to:

  • Break the law or store data you have no right to keep.
  • Attack, scrape, overload, or reverse-engineer the service beyond ordinary use.
  • Impersonate someone else or open an account for a child under the age floor.
  • Resell or share a Pro subscription as if it were a public product of your own.

We may suspend or close an account that is abused or that puts the service at risk.

Your data and our intellectual property

You keep the numbers and notes you enter. Folio’s name, design, and software belong to the Folio operator. You get a limited licence to use Folio for your own personal tracking while these terms apply.

How we handle personal information is in Privacy.

Availability

We aim to keep Folio available, but we do not promise uninterrupted, secure, or error-free access. Live prices, hosting, and other third-party services can fail, lag, or go away. You should export a JSON copy if you want a backup outside Folio. Folio is not your only record of your finances.

Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any right, guarantee, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law (or any other law) that cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified. The “as is” wording, exclusions, and caps below apply only to the maximum extent the law allows. If a sentence would be invalid because of that law, it is read down or dropped so the rest of these terms still apply.

As is; no extra promises

Subject to the Australian Consumer Law, Folio is provided “as is” and “as available”. the Folio operator does not warrant that:

  • Balances, charts, net worth, budgets, or live prices are accurate, complete, or current.
  • The service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or free of defects.
  • Folio will meet your financial, tax, credit, or record-keeping needs.

To the maximum extent the law allows, we disclaim all other warranties and guarantees — express, implied, or statutory — including that Folio is fit for a particular purpose. Where the Australian Consumer Law lets us limit our responsibility for a failure to comply with a consumer guarantee, our liability is limited to (at our choice) resupplying the service or paying the cost of having it supplied again.

Limitation of liability

Subject to the Australian Consumer Law, the Folio operator is not liable to you for:

  • Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss or damage.
  • Lost profits, lost opportunity, lost data, lost goodwill, or interruption of your affairs.
  • Investment losses, tax outcomes, credit decisions, or any other money decision you make.
  • Errors, gaps, or delays in third-party prices, hosting, payments, or sign-in.
  • Someone else using your account if you did not keep your login details safe.

That applies even if we were told such loss was possible, and whether the claim is in contract, tort (including negligence), statute, or otherwise — except where the law does not allow that limit. Financial decisions remain yours.

For claims the law allows us to cap, the Folio operator’s total liability to you for Folio — all claims together — is limited to the fees you paid us for Folio in the 12 months before the claim. If you paid nothing in that period (for example you only used the free ledger or the on-device demo), that amount is zero, and — where the law lets us — our responsibility is limited to resupplying the service or paying the cost of having it supplied again.

Indemnity

If someone makes a claim against the Folio operator because you misused Folio, stored data you had no right to keep, broke these terms, or made a decision using the ledger, you will cover the resulting losses and reasonable legal costs. This does not apply to the extent the claim was caused by our fraud, or where the Australian Consumer Law does not allow it.

Ending the service

You can stop using Folio at any time and cancel Pro as described in Refunds. We may stop offering Folio or close an account after notice, or immediately if you seriously breach these terms. After closure, your licence to use the service ends.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Australia. Australian courts have jurisdiction, subject to any rights you have to use another forum under Australian law.

Privacy

Who we are

Folio is a private net-worth ledger at myfirstmillion.app. It is operated by the Folio operator in Australia. Contact: hello@myfirstmillion.app.

Folio does not link your bank. You enter balances, assets, and debts yourself. You can export or import a JSON copy of your ledger from the app. There is no Plaid, Method, or other bank-connection API.

What we collect

Depending on how you use Folio, we may hold:

  • Account details you provide: email, name, and a password (stored as a hash) if you sign in with email, or your Google account identity if you use Google.
  • Ledger entries you enter once you are signed in: accounts, assets, debts, history, and — if you use Pro — budget, stock holdings, and savings goals. This is saved to your Folio account.
  • Session and authentication data (cookies, and in some environments a short-lived token) so we know you are signed in.
  • Billing identifiers from Stripe if you subscribe to Pro: customer id, subscription id, price id, and related status. Folio does not store your full card number.
  • Basic technical logs from hosting, such as request time, path, and approximate location derived by the host. These are used to run and debug the service.

Demo mode keeps a sample or practice ledger on this device only. It is not saved to a Folio account.

How we use it

We use this information to:

  • Create and keep your signed-in ledger available across devices.
  • Authenticate you with email/password or Google (via Better Auth).
  • Provide Folio Pro through Stripe when you subscribe.
  • Fetch live prices for ticker symbols you add in the Pro stock portfolio. That request includes the ticker, not your unit counts or average cost.
  • Respond to support requests you send us.
  • Keep the service secure and working.

Who processes data for us

We use these processors to run Folio. We do not sell your personal data.

  • Cloudflare — hosting and delivery of the app.
  • Neon — Postgres database for accounts, sessions, ledgers, and subscription status.
  • Stripe — Pro payments. Card details are handled by Stripe, not stored by Folio.
  • Google — only if you choose Continue with Google. Google then receives the sign-in you start.

These providers may process data outside Australia. If you use Folio, that transfer is part of how the service is hosted.

Cookies and local storage

Folio uses cookies (and similar storage) to keep you signed in. The limited demo stores its ledger in this browser’s local storage. Clearing site data on a device removes that demo copy. It does not delete a signed-in cloud ledger — email us if you want that removed.

How long we keep it

Account and ledger data stay while your account is open. Stripe keeps its own payment records under Stripe’s policies. Technical logs are kept only as long as needed to operate the service. If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove Folio’s copy of your account and ledger, except records we must keep for billing, security, or law.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the personal data Folio holds about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. Email hello@myfirstmillion.app. You can export your ledger as JSON from the app at any time. Australian Privacy Principles and, where they apply, Australian Consumer Law still govern how we handle this.

Children

Folio is not directed at children under 16. Do not create an account if you are under 16.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top of this document will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.

Refunds

What this covers

Folio at myfirstmillion.app is operated by the Folio operator in Australia. The core ledger is free. Folio Pro is a digital subscription at $9.99/month (A$9.99), billed by Stripe. There are no cash refunds for the free tier or the on-device demo.

This section sits alongside the Terms in this document. Australian Consumer Law guarantees still apply and are not limited by what follows.

How to cancel Pro

If you are signed in on a Pro account, open Billing in Folio. That takes you to the Stripe customer portal, where you can cancel or update the subscription.

You can also email hello@myfirstmillion.app and we will help you reach the same portal or cancel for you.

After a normal cancellation, Pro usually stays available until the end of the period you already paid for. It does not keep charging after that period unless you resubscribe. Cancelling mid-cycle does not, by itself, create a refund of the unused days.

When we consider a refund

Folio Pro is a digital subscription that unlocks features as soon as Stripe confirms payment. Please email hello@myfirstmillion.app with the subject “Folio refund request” and the email on the account.

We consider a refund when:

  • It is within 14 days of your first Pro charge, and you have barely used Pro features.
  • You were charged by mistake, charged twice, or charged after a cancellation that should have stopped the renewal.
  • Australian Consumer Law requires a remedy — for example if Pro was not provided with acceptable care and skill.

We do not ordinarily refund an ordinary mid-cycle cancel after you have used Pro in that period. The subscription then continues until the period end, as above.

How refunds are paid

Approved refunds go back through Stripe to the original payment method. Processing time depends on your bank or card issuer. We do not pay cash or bank transfer for the free ledger.

Chargebacks

If something looks wrong, email us first. A card chargeback is a last step, not the first. We will look at billing errors and duplicate charges directly. Chargebacks can delay a genuine fix and may affect the account while Stripe investigates.
